The competition had a focus in sustainable tower ideas. We looked at the fact that Omaha had some of the highest wind speeds in the country as a design opportunity. The goal was to try to understand how a form could be manipulated to utilize the wind and even accelerate the wind.
The main idea for the program came from the idea that a mix use transit hub can be an ultimate catalyst for a downtown. Omaha has constantly dealt with transportation issues from the west part of the city to downtown and we decided to look at a light rail system that would connect the city and all circulate out of this tower. One of the main precedents for the project was the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago, IL. |
